Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare production and transport systems
- Access, interpret and apply production and transport systems documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
- Identify and confirm, in consultation, the requirements for, and purpose of, production and transport systems in accordance with the system of mining
- Identify systems options from an analysis of all relevant technical, operational and financial information
- Establish specification for the production and transport system from a comprehensive analysis of operating requirements
- Select the preferred systems options on the basis of performance against specification requirements

Performance Evidence
Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:
locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and proceduresengineering practices for transport and production equipmentimplements procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of the establishing and maintenance of mechanical standard and engineering practices for transport and production equipment including:accessing, reading, interpreting and applying:legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedurestechnical informationthe principles of mine designhazard identification and risk management processeswork planning and coordination processestraining needs analysismanufacturers’ instructionsconducting briefings and handoversworks effectively with others to establish and maintain mechanical standard and engineering practices for transport and production equipment including:managing people and processescoordinating human, financial and physical resources developing, initiating and administering work plansinterpreting and applying operational performance dataengaging internal and external stakeholdersdemonstrates completion of the establishing and maintenance of mechanical standard and engineering practices for transport and production equipment that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:identifying the relevant information and scope of the workidentifying the full range of specification requirementsidentifying all aspects of transport and production equipmentidentifying systems options from an analysis of all relevant technical, operational and financial informationselecting the preferred equipment solutions on the basis of performance against criteriaestablishing procedures for reviewing and modifying work processesdeveloping the audit, review and reporting systems
